81 points?

I woke up this morning with something on my mind. I seem to remember watching Kobe hang 81 on Toronto last night on Fox Sports Net. Was that a dream or did it really happen?

One more reason not to watch basketball.

I am so jealous. I would have given anything to been able to watch the second half of that game. Instead, I was forced to keep watching ESPNews for updates and for the game to end so I could see the highlights. I never thought that any one could get 100 points in a game again but I believe Kobe could do it.

simmons had a great take on his earlier scoring explosion, and him sitting out the fourth. so, i eagerly await his dissection of the 81.

but, i think this definately shows the lack of talent on toronto. really, you can't stop one guy with your five. if you did, or even held him to 62, you win by a point because we all know mamba isn't passing the ball.

i also like that he had 46 fg attempts and 22 free throws. so, he could have possibly scored 113 if all shots went in, and all fg attempts were for 2.

really, you had 46 shots. pass it. lamar odom can't put a shot or two down?

Actually, Kobe would have only possibly had 112 points because one of the missed free throws he got his own rebound and made a quick basket on the putback. If he made the free throw then that put back opportunity would not have happened.

I also saw a stat comparing Kobe's and Wilt's big games and Wilt was 38 for 63 from the field. Also, I think Kobe's 81 is a lot more impressive than Wilt's 100. Read this quick recap about the game and you will see that Wilt had no competition to play against (http://www.hoophall.com/exhibits/chamberlain_game.htm).

hey, i'm not saying that kobe's is less impresive than wilt's total. in fact, in the modern nba, someone should be able to stop him. it's ridiculous to see a guy put up 81 in a game, as well as the previous 62 or whatever in the same season. really, this speaks poorly of both toronto and the lakers. and, factoring that this is the second, and probably not last, huge point total for him this season it really speaks volumns about the lakers. or kobe and his willingness or ability to involve his teammates.

hell, if he only shot 3's, and took 46, his total could have been much greater, especially factoring free throws on a fouled three point attempt.

To an extent, I agree with all of these comments. I think we have well represented the spectrum of fealings theaverage fan has about the issue. I agree that in this era, no one should get 81 in a game. Wilt got his 100 when the NBA had way less talent to choose from (no international players, and basketball was much less popular domestically).
If I had any chance of seeing the lakers in the playoffs, I would find a defensive specialist who could hold Kobe to 28 pts. If you do that, you automatically beat the lakers.

oh yeah, two assists. i wonder how many more passes he had outside of those two.
